How long does it take to get a cosmetology license? 

To apply for a Texas Cosmetology Operator license, you must first enroll in a beauty school that is licensed in the state of Texas. All potential students should read our article how to choose a cosmetology school that is just right for you and your educational needs. 

From there, the Texas licensing requirements state that after completing your 1,000 hours of a cosmetology program, you must pass a written and practical exam to obtain your license through the Texas Department of Licensing and Registration. The written exam will become available to you after finishing 900 hours of your cosmetology program. A score of 70% or better is required to pass the written exam and can be taken as many times as needed.
